Joe Biden’s reelection campaign is off to a shaky start.
Many in his Party are nervous about him being at the top of the ticket.
And a leading Democrat uttered three words about 2024 that left Joe Biden fuming.
The Democrat establishment rallied around President Joe Biden in his reelection bid, but the Party’s base is not thrilled about backing the unpopular President for a second term.
Polling consistently shows that Democrats want someone else other than the 80-year-old Biden to be their Presidential nominee.
No serious challengers have emerged against Biden, who currently faces token opposition from self-help author Marianne Williamson and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the heir to the Kennedy dynasty.
One Congressman just said that the country is behind him in asking Biden to throw in the towel on his reelection bid in favor of another Democrat candidate.
Top Democrat says it’s time for Joe Biden to pass the torch
Dean Phillips (D-MN) turned heads last year when he became one of the highest-profile Democrats to announce that he would not back Biden for reelection.
Phillips recently told host Chuck Todd during an interview on NBC’s Meet the Press that the majority of the country is united behind him in asking Biden to “pass the torch” to another candidate for the 2024 election.
Behind closed doors, Democrat donors and his constituents are telling him that they want the Party to “move on” from Biden.
Speculation is growing that Philips might step up and challenge Biden in the Democrat Primary, but so far he’s denied having any interest.
“It’s not about what’s real all the time, it’s about how people feel,” Phillips said. “People want to turn the page. As a Democrat, I adore Joe Biden, he saved this country. He can cement his legacy. The call to action is to ask the President to pass the torch.”
Phillips said that Democrats need to “look at the data” because it’s “not too late” for the Party to go in a different direction.
“In business, you have to recognize this because the data speaks the truth,” Phillips said. “The data is speaking the truth right now.”
Democrats are sounding the alarm on Biden’s chances against former President Donald Trump in a potential rematch next year.
The deeply unpopular President’s approval rating is at rock bottom and he’s trailing Trump in many polls nationally and in key battleground states.
Phillips admitted that coming forward about Biden is “unpopular” with some in his Party because they’re afraid of speaking the truth about the President.
“There’s no political reward in the United States right now for simply speaking the truth,” Phillips said. “It is not good to get out of line at a time when we need it more than ever.”
Frustrated Democrat voters could have third-party options on the ballot next year, including Green Party candidate Cornel West and Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), who’s considering a run on the No Labels ticket.
Joe Biden is going to have a major challenge getting disillusioned Democrat voters to fall in line next year.
