Everyone knew this day was coming for California Congressman Adam Schiff.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy finally lowered the boom.
And Adam Schiff just lost his job because of this one word.
For all of 2021 and 2022 then-House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy warned Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats that if Republicans won back the majority he would kick Schiff and his fellow California Democrat Eric Swalwell off the Intelligence Committee.
McCarthy explained that Schiff repeatedly lied to the public when he chaired the Intelligence Committee, including making false claims about having evidence Donald Trump colluded with Russia and lying about knowing the identity of the whistleblower in the Ukraine impeachment hoax.
The FBI briefed McCarthy on Swalwell carrying on a sexual relationship with a communist Chinese spy named Fang Fang.
In a letter to Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, McCarthy informed Jeffries that he would not seat Schiff or Swalwell on the Intelligence Committee due to their lack of “integrity.”
McCarthy wrote:
I appreciate the loyalty you have to your Democrat colleagues, and I acknowledge your efforts to have two Members of Congress reinstated to the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. But I cannot put partisan loyalty ahead of national security, and I cannot simply recognize years of service as the sole criteria for membership on this essential committee. Integrity matters more.
As such, in order to maintain a standard worthy of this committee’s responsibilities, I am hereby rejecting the appointments of Representative Adam Schiff and Representative Eric Swalwell to serve on the Intelligence Committee.
It is my assessment that the misuse of this panel during the 116th and 117th Congresses severely undermined its primary national security and oversight missions ultimately leaving our nation less safe. Therefore. As we enter a new Congress, I am committed to returning the Intelligence Committee to one of genuine honesty and credibility that regains the trust of the American people.
Schiff was furious about losing his perch as the top Democrat on the Intelligence Committee.
“It’s disappointing but not surprising that Kevin McCarthy has capitulated to the right wing of his caucus, undermining the integrity of the Congress, and harming our national security in the process,” a joint statement from Schiff and Swalwell read.
But Schiff and Swalwell have no one to blame but themselves.
For years the Intelligence Committee operated as a nonpartisan oversight entity.
That all changed when Schiff and Swalwell dove headfirst into the Russian collusion hoax.
The two lied and leaked to the media as part of a failed coup attempt to overthrow Donald Trump.
McCarthy promised to depoliticize the Intelligence Committee.
And removing Schiff and Swalwell from the committee is just step one.
