Alina Habba sounds note of pessimism in New York City criminal trial
Legal scholars across the political spectrum slammed Alvin Bragg for accusing Donald Trump of fake crimes by taking a series of legal actions and twisting them into a criminal indictment.
Boston University Law Professor Jed Handelsman Shugerman blasted Bragg for making a “historic mistake” by abusing prosecutorial power to force Trump to stand for such baseless charges.
George Washington University Law Professor Jonathan Turley deemed the case an “embarrassment.”
But despite the facts and the law being on Trump’s side, Alina Habba thinks he stands little to no chance of prevailing because Bragg staged a rigged show trial for him in one of the most Democrat-heavy jurisdictions in the country.
Habba’s frustrations came out during an interview with Newsmax’s Greg Kelly.
“How are you and what do you think tonight about everything?” Kelly asked.
Habba lamented the fact that Democrats kept indicting or filing lawsuits against Trump in the bluest cities in America – Washington, D.C., Atlanta, and New York city – and said that he faced rigged juries full of Democrats and biased Democrat judges in these cases.
“I don’t have hopes really that high at this moment that the New York courts will do the right thing, that the jury will do the right thing. We’re in a blue state, as you know, Greg. And I think everything’s by design. We’re in a case that was eight years old, over the statute of limitations, was denied by [former Manhattan District Attorney] Cy Vance, then brought only after President Trump decided he was going to run for office,” Habba stated.
“It’s very troubling,” she added. “We’re in the fight of our lives at this moment.”
