Bud Light executives are drowning their sorrows after receiving this horrible news

Aug 14, 2023

It has been nearly four months since Bud Light caused outrage over their partnership with controversial transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney.

Bud Light has seen massive losses in sales and many business experts believe that the brand may never fully recover from this controversy.

And now Bud Light executives are drowning their sorrows after receiving this horrible news.

Bud Light’s story is a case study on why going “woke” is bad for business

In recent years, a long list of corporations have adopted “wokeness” in a pathetic attempt to appease the radical Left.

However, some brands, including Target, Disney, and Bud Light, have overplayed their hands, causing their stock prices to plummet as a result of boycotts.

The boycott against Bud Light has received the most media attention given its devastating effect on what many people deemed to be a blue-chip stock/brand.

A recent report released by the Wall Street Journal said that “there are reasons to believe that Bud Light sales might be permanently impaired. Molson Coors Chief Executive Gavin Hattersley said on a conference call with analysts that retailers are already reallocating space to other brands during shelf resets that take place in the spring, with more resets to come in the fall.”

Washington Post journalist Megan McArdle replied to the article by saying that “I remain shocked by the durability of the effects of the conservative boycott on Bud Light. WSJ reports that retailers are now reallocating shelf space to other brands, which will help lock in the decline.”

As McArdle correctly points out, it is not just Bud Light that is hurt by this boycott, but also the enormous beer-distributing industry, which is turning its back on the brand in order to avoid any more financial damage.

Last week, an anonymous executive from a large beer distributor spoke to the New York Times and said “consumers have made a choice.  They have left [Bud Light] and that’s how it’s going to be. I don’t envision a big percentage of them coming back.”

He said many of these customers have switched to other similar cheap light beers like Miller Lite and Coors Light and added that “there are so many different options for coming-of-age drinkers today.”

If Bud Light can fall – then any other brand can fall

Bud Light’s demise, which many experts believe could be permanent, shows that no brand is too big to fail in the court of public opinion.

For years, Bud Light was America’s most popular beer, but now that honor lies with Modelo Especial, which is brewed in Mexico.

Going woke is the kiss of death when it comes to marketing, especially for products like light beer, which has nothing to do with LGBTQ issues.

But brands like Bud Light, Target, and Disney have overplayed their hands when it comes to “wokeness” and it is unclear if they will ever fully recover.
