The big question hanging over the first GOP Presidential debate is if Donald Trump will appear on stage.
That question has finally been put to rest.
And Donald Trump just made this huge announcement about attending the first debate.
Fox News Channel executives were desperate for Trump to show up at the August 23 debate in Milwaukee.
The network lost 30 percent of its primetime audience after its disastrous decision back in April to fire Tucker Carlson.
In 2016, the first GOP Presidential debate featuring Donald Trump attracted 25 million viewers, a record for a non-sporting event televised on cable.
Fox executives pinned their hopes of winning back the lost audience on Trump’s appearance at the debate.
The debate would also be the highest profile platform for Trump to respond to the politicized indictments that Joe Biden weaponized the justice system to bring against him.
But Trump dashed Fox’s hopes.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said there was no point in debating since the Real Clear Politics polling average shows him leading his nearest rival by almost 40 points.
“Many people are asking whether or not I will be doing the DEBATES? ALL AMERICANS have been clamoring for a President of extremely High Intelligence. As everyone is aware, my Poll numbers, over a ‘wonderful’ field of Republican candidates, are extraordinary. In fact, I am leading the runner up, whoever that may now be, by more than 50 Points. Reagan didn’t do it, and neither did others. People know my Record, one of the BEST EVER, so why would I Debate? I’M YOUR MAN. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” Trump wrote.
To make matters worse for Fox News, Carlson and Trump are cooking up a massive piece of revenge by counterprogramming the debate.
In fact, Carlson will have Trump appear for an interview on his show on X (formerly known as Twitter.)
“I’m hearing it’s increasingly likely that Trump will try to upstage the first G.O.P. debate via an interview with Tucker Carlson on his preferred media channel, X. The event, itself, would represent something of a triple-revenge fantasy—allowing Tucker to upstage his old network while Trump gets to not only punish Fox for its patronage of DeSantis but also receive a hero’s welcome on a platform that once jettisoned him. And who said ’24 was completely mirthless and depressing!” Tara Palmieri of Puck News reported.
“The two are working out the logistics, I’m told from sources close to Trump. The known unknowns: will they tape the conversation at Bedminster, or Mar-a-Lago, or does Trump go up to Maine? Will Carlson leave his bunker?” Palmieri added.
