President Joe Biden is trying to impose sweeping changes on the automotive industry with new regulations aimed at forcing drivers into electric vehicles (EVs).
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) unveiled a new proposal to make two-thirds of all new vehicle sales electric by 2032.
To bribe the Big Three American automakers to follow along, the Department of Energy announced that it would invest up to $12 billion to help auto manufacturing plants produce electric vehicles.
Biden’s electrification plan is threatening to bring a major upheaval to the auto industry.
In the crucial swing state of Michigan, there are nearly 200,000 auto manufacturing jobs, the highest of any state in the country.
Biden’s electrification push is poised to ship many of these jobs overseas to China, which is dominating the manufacturing of electric batteries and the mining of the mineral resources needed to create them.
China controls the vast majority of rare earth minerals needed to create batteries and is instituting tight export restrictions to control production.
There’s no evidence that the public will buy these Chinese-manufactured cars.
Despite generous government incentives to buy them, electric vehicles are piling up unsold on dealership lots across the country.
Drivers aren’t interested in switching to electric vehicles and automakers could be left holding the bag.
Donald Trump warns that Biden will decimate the American auto industry
Former President Donald Trump said that he wants to end the “madness” of Biden’s push to take the automotive industry electric.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, he warned that the push would eliminate auto manufacturing in states like Michigan.
“The great State of Michigan will not have an auto industry anymore if crooked Joe Biden’s crazed concept of ‘all Electric Cars’ goes into effect,” Trump wrote. “China will take it all, 100%. United Auto Workers, vote for Trump. Get your leaders to endorse me, I will keep all of these great jobs, and bring in many more. Choice in schools, and choice in cars!”
Trump appealed to members of the powerful United Auto Workers (UAW) union to defy their Big Labor bosses and support his campaign.
“Shawn Fain, the respected President of the United Auto Workers, cannot even think about allowing ALL ELECTRIC CARS — THEY WILL ALL BE MADE IN CHINA, and the Auto Industry in America will cease to exist!” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Vote for TRUMP, and I will stop this Madness, IMMEDIATELY! Mexico & Canada LOVE Biden’s idiotic policy. SAVE MICHIGAN and the other Auto States. SAVE THE AMERICAN CONSUMER!!!”
The UAW is headed towards a strike with the Big Three American automakers in part because of the transition to electric vehicles eliminating jobs.
Michigan is once again set to be one of the most important battleground states in the next election, and Biden is on the verge of destroying the state’s auto industry.
Standing up for American jobs by opposing electric vehicles could be the opening Donald Trump needs to win Michigan in 2024.
