Donald Trump wants to pick this woman as his running mate

Mar 9, 2023

Polls show Donald Trump is the frontrunner for the 2024 Republican Presidential Primary.

One of the big questions is who Trump would select to replace Mike Pence as his Vice President?

And Donald Trump wants to pick this woman as his running mate.

Trump and Pence no longer see eye to eye because of what happened on January 6.

If Trump wins the nomination, he will certainly pick a new running mate.

Nominees tend to base their Vice Presidential selection on the person’s strengths and weaknesses in terms of electoral appeal.

In 2016, Trump picked Pence to help shore up his support with traditional Republicans and Evangelical Christians.

The decision paid off, as Trump won 81 percent of white Evangelical Christians en route to defeating Hillary Clinton.

Heading into the 2024 election, Trump needs to solidify his appeal with female voters.

In 2020, Trump only won 42 percent of the female vote.

That is leading to new reporting that Trump is considering picking a woman as his running mate.

And Arizona Republican gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake emerged as the model type of pick Trump would like to make.

Axios reports:

Former President Trump is strongly considering picking a female running mate — and sees Kari Lake as a model for his Vice-Presidential pick, according to people who discussed the topic with him.

Why it matters: Trump is already gaming out the general election in November 2024 — and knows he has a massive weakness with the white suburban women he would need to beat President Biden.

Lake, a former TV anchor who lost her race for Arizona Governor in November, meets Trump’s most important qualification for a No. 2: She has shown she’s willing to defend him vociferously, no matter the issue or controversy.

But Lake lost her election, which makes her selection unlikely.

Trump is considering other women such as Nikki Haley, South Dakota Governor Kirsti Noem, and Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

Axios also reports:

Some close to Trump think Nikki Haley — former South Carolina governor, and his ambassador to the UN — might be the best fit.

She’s his best-known declared opponent for the GOP nomination. He calculates she doesn’t take a single vote from him.

Another strong fit might be Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who was Trump’s White House press secretary.

Trump’s Vice Presidential selection is essential.

Since Trump is limited to one term in office, whoever serves as his Vice President will automatically become the 2028 frontrunner for the GOP Presidential nomination.
