Donald Trump was breathing a sigh of relief after lawfare against two of his allies failed

Apr 3, 2024

The lawfare against conservatives has expanded beyond Donald Trump.

Some of his top allies have been in the crosshairs of the Left and the establishment.

And Donald Trump was breathing a sigh of relief after lawfare against two of his allies failed.

Two allies of former President Donald Trump were exonerated after they were targeted for lawfare.

CPAC chair suit dropped

American Conservative Union chair Matt Schlapp is the organizer of the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).

He was accused of sexual battery and defamation by a campaign staffer of former Georgia GOP Senate candidate Herschel Walker.

Schlapp and his wife Mercedes – a former Trump White House official – faced a civil lawsuit asking for $9.4 million in damages from Walker staffer Carlton Huffman.

Huffman dropped his lawsuit and said the allegations against the Schlapps were “the result of a complete misunderstanding.”

“I regret that the lawsuit caused pain to the Schlapp family,” Huffman said.

Top Trump ally in Texas has charges dropped

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) has been Trump’s most high-profile and outspoken supporter in the Lone Star State.

He led the charge to take President Joe Biden and his lawless administration to court by filing lawsuits over the border crisis and other federal overreaches.

But he’s faced attacks from Democrats and the Republican establishment.

Paxton has faced an ongoing legal battle since 2015 after he was accused of not telling investors in a technology company that he held a stake in it before he discussed buying into it.

He reached an agreement with prosecutors to have all charges dropped against him with no admission of wrongdoing if he performs 100 hours of community service, takes 15 hours of legal ethics classes, and pays $270,000 in restitution.

Paxton was thankful to reach a conclusion to a case that began when former President Barack Obama was in office.

“For over a decade, my family and I have been dealing with the ongoing stress of these accusations and are relieved to finally have a resolution in this matter,” Paxton said. “The prosecution came to us to begin negotiations and we were able to come to an agreement on terms. There will never be a conviction in this case nor am I guilty.”

Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton told Just the News, No Noise that Paxton was facing legal harassment for nearly a decade.

“The case of Paxton has been 10 years, this would have begun under the Obama administration. They’ve been harassing him. It’s a further indictment of our system of justice here, where the Left media echoes friendly claims at targets they all don’t like, whether it be Matt Schlapp or the Attorney General of Texas, or obviously President Trump,” Fitton said.

The Left is targeting people who are effective.

“But we should know it’s not just an economist, as a reminder, it’s not just Trump, who has been victimized by lawfare,” Fitton continued. “It’s folks who are effective, public, and seen as dangerous by the Left to their agenda. And you don’t have to be high and mighty to get on their radar.”

Lawfare has become part and parcel of the tactics used by the Left to target conservatives.
