The Republican Presidential Primary is starting to heat up.
Candidates are collecting key endorsements for their campaigns.
And Donald Trump was grinning from ear to ear when picked up this surprising endorsement.
A showdown is looming in the Republican Primary between former President Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
The Florida Governor is expected to announce his campaign shortly after the state’s legislature wraps up its session in May.
Trump has been racking up endorsements from elected Republican officials ahead of his faceoff with DeSantis.
So far, the former President has been adding endorsements from Senators and Congressmen, including a majority of Florida’s delegation.
Even though endorsements from state and local officials fly under the radar, these officials often become key surrogates in their states during the Primary.
Trump just added an endorsement from a small-town Mayor that could signal his continued strength with blue-collar voters.
East Palestine, Ohio mayor backs Trump
In February, East Palestine, Ohio was thrust into the national spotlight when a train carrying toxic chemicals derailed and contaminated the town.
The response to the disaster from the Biden regime put its incompetence on display.
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg waited 10 days before he publicly commented on it.
Despite promising to visit the small town, President Joe Biden still hasn’t bothered to make an appearance.
But Trump showed up in East Palestine shortly after the disaster and brought bottled water and other much-need supplies for the residents.
He met the town’s Mayor and bought McDonalds for first responders and local residents.
The visit showcased Trump’s unique connection with the public and his support in the forgotten blue-collar towns of middle America.
Now, Trump is adding an endorsement from East Palestine Mayor Trent Conaway.
Donald Trump, Jr. introduced Conaway on stage to a packed house at the Columbiana County Republican Lincoln Day Dinner.
“I would first like to thank Joe Biden and Hunter Biden for visiting the town, oh, that’s right, they were busy,” Conaway said.
He said that the visit from the former President to East Palestine in February “really changed the way people saw us, the town.”
“They realized that we needed help,” Conaway said. “We’ve been asking for help, and we had the EPA there and other agencies, but we truly got help after [Trump] visited, so we thank you. Without you, this could have been different, so we thank you.”
The Biden regime dragged its feet in responding to the disaster and was only shamed into action by Trump’s visit.
“The support you showed to me and my residents, we appreciate it, you have no idea how much we appreciated that, it really changed things,” Conaway continued. “And that’s why, in 2024, I will support your father’s reelection.”
Trump showed leadership by visiting East Palestine and won the support of the Mayor.
East Palestine is emblematic of the blue-collar support Trump will need in Rust Belt battleground states like Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania to return to the White House.
