Fox News and Donald Trump are in open warfare.
This represents a massive sea change in the media landscape as well as the Republican Party.
And now Fox News just canceled Donald Trump for one insane reason.
It’s a long forgotten fact, but early in the 2016 Presidential campaign Rupert Murdoch and Fox News vehemently opposed Donald Trump.
Murdoch – who founded Fox News and also owns the Wall Street Journal and the New York Post – initially supported Jeb Bush because he hated Trump’s America First policies on trade, immigration, and foreign policy.
At the first GOP Presidential debate in August of 2015, Megyn Kelly went after Donald Trump with a personal attack question regarding his comments about women.
Many believe Fox News President Roger Ailes ordered Kelly to try and take down Trump since Murdoch believed him winning the nomination would be a disaster for the GOP.
Murdoch’s media empire only came around to Trump once it was clear that he was the GOP nominee and the only chance to keep Hillary Clinton out of the White House.
After the Midterm elections, Murdoch’s media outlets turned against Trump.
Murdoch and his emissaries reportedly told Trump that Fox News, the Journal, and the Post would not support his 2024 re-election campaign.
In practice, that meant banning Trump from Fox News.
Trump has not appeared on Fox News since September and the network did not cover his trip to East Palestine, Ohio.
Now it’s officially confirmed that Fox is blacklisting Donald Trump from the airwaves to help other candidates win the 2024 GOP nomination.
“Everyone knows that there’s this ‘soft ban’ or ‘silent ban,’” Semafor reported a source close to Trump said. “It’s certainly — however you want to say, quiet ban, soft ban, whatever it is — indicative of how the Murdochs feel about Trump in this particular moment.”
The source added that the ban on Trump came from Murdoch personally because he wants the GOP to move on from him.
“The understanding is that they’re [Fox] not to have Trump on for an interview, because the Murdochs have made it pretty clear they want to move on from Trump … Fox is showing that by not having him on,” a Republican operative close to Trump also stated.
This Trump source did admit that the network is trying to readjust their coverage to offer fairer and less CNN-style negativity towards Trump.
“They have been ramping up their efforts to try to give more fair coverage, or fair airtime” the Trump source explained. “I don’t think they’re trying to reverse course, but they’re trying to appease, and tamp down, some of that criticism.”
