Joe Biden is hellbent on opening the border.
But he crossed a major red line with this one move.
And Joe Biden is in big trouble for what he just got caught doing with Trump’s border wall.
The border wall was the centerpiece of former President Donald Trump’s successful border security policies.
Democrats were seething at Trump’s signature border security policy.
During the 2020 Presidential campaign, Joe Biden claimed walls don’t work and smeared them as racist.
On his first day in office, Biden froze construction on Trump’s border wall.
The federal government had already allocated money and purchased materials to continue construction when Biden occupied the White House.
Building materials are sitting in the desert and costing taxpayers valuable money.
And now Republicans are demanding answers.
Unused border wall materials are costing taxpayers nearly $50 million per year
The Biden regime is spending roughly $130,000 per day to store unused panels for the border wall.
Republicans on the Senate Armed Forces Committee received information from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) about the fate of unused building materials for the wall.
They sent a letter to the Department of Defense asking why the agency is spending nearly $50 million per year to store building materials purchased during the Trump administration for the border wall.
Senator Roger Wicker (R-MS), Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), and other Republicans on the Committee said that they “are disturbed to learn the Department of Defense is paying private landowners to store border wall materials procured under the Trump Administration instead of fortifying the southern border with those materials.”
In a letter addressed to Assistant Secretary of Defense for Homeland Defense and Hemispheric Affairs Melissa Dalton, they demanded answers on this outrageous waste of money.
“At present, over 20,000 border wall sections, otherwise known as bollard panels, lie unused at 20 project sites across southern Arizona and New Mexico,” they wrote. “Every day, the Department of Defense pays $130,000 to store, maintain, and secure these materials.”
$2.2 billion in funding for the border wall was pulled and given to the Defense Department for use on overseas projects.
“Since you were sworn in as the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Homeland Defense and Hemispheric Affairs a year ago, you have allowed the Department to pay over $47 million to store these panels,” the letter continued. “The Department of Defense should not be incurring these daily charges but should be using these funds to bolster national security.”
1,700 border wall panels were transferred by the federal government to Texas for construction on its state-funded border wall.
However, the Biden regime quickly put the brakes on sending more panels.
Enough materials currently remain to build over 100 miles of border wall.
If the material remains in the desert, it could give Donald Trump a head start on restarting construction on the border wall if he can win the Presidency in 2024.
Joe Biden would rather spend money to not build the wall than to do his job and secure the southern border.
