Josh Hawley went to war with the FBI director after this awful decision

Nov 25, 2024

The FBI director was hoping to duck accountability in the closing weeks of Joe Biden’s Presidency.

He made a serious miscalculation in one fight.

And Josh Hawley went to war with the FBI director after this awful decision.

FBI Director and Homeland Security Secretary skip key Senate hearing

Impeached Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas and FBI Director Christopher Wray skipped out on testifying before a Senate Homeland Security hearing on national security threats.

It was the first time in 15 years that the Homeland Security Secretary and the FBI Director didn’t testify before the committee’s annual threats hearing.

Senate Homeland Security Chairman Gary Peters (D-MI) called it a “shocking departure” from norms.

Bipartisan outrage poured in over Mayorkas and Wray skipping the hearing.

U.S. Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) had a strong suspicion as to why the pair skipped the hearings.

Hawley slammed Mayorkas and Wray for skipping the hearing to avoid taking any tough questions after Venezuelan illegal alien Jose Ibarra was convicted for the murder of Georgia nursing student Laken Riley.

“Let’s not forget who let him into the country,” Hawley said about Ibarra. “Mayorkas lied about how he got into the country. He said authorities didn’t have information about his past crimes. False. Then he claimed he didn’t remember the details. False. Now he’s refusing to comment.”

Ibarra illegally crossed the southern border into Texas and was released into the interior of the country by the Biden-Harris administration.

Hawley noted on social media that Wray and Mayorkas were legally obligated to testify at the hearing.

“This is Mayorkas & Wray giving the middle finger to the American people,” Hawley wrote. “They are REQUIRED BY LAW to testify. And now they’re saying it’s good enough to post something on a website? Both are unfit for office. The Senate should subpoena them immediately and hold them in contempt.”

Wray and Mayorkas stonewalling during their final days in office

The FBI director and Homeland Security secretary also skipped a House Homeland Security Committee hearing.

Hawley called on Chairman Peters to issue subpoenas to force Wray and Mayorkas to testify.

The Missouri lawmaker thought it would be an uphill battle but Peters expressed frustration at the pair’s decision to skip the hearing.

“Secretary Mayorkas and Director Wray’s refusal to speak publicly about their department’s work will only increase the concerns that many Americans have about our nation’s security at a challenging time, flout the committee’s efforts to conduct responsible oversight, and will deal a serious blow to trust in our government,” Peters said.

Mayorkas and Wray are trying to run out the clock on the Biden-Harris administration and their time in the federal government.

The Homeland Security secretary will be out of a job in January when President-elect Donald Trump returns to office.

Wray is expected to be fired by Trump and replaced with a new FBI director who’s committed to bringing rogue elements in the bureau to heel.

The pair know they only have weeks to dodge the Senate before they can go back to being private citizens again.
