This is leading to a strange dynamic in the press where many are suddenly waking up to the fact that Joe Biden is old and senile.
But this is likely not an act of honest journalism.
As polls show Biden’s shaky prospects to defeat Trump, many in the press are likely using the age issue to make Democrats confront a contingency plan to force Biden out of the race so the Party can find a new, younger, and more electable standard bearer.
Jean-Pierre found herself on the receiving end for a second straight day of answering questions about a new AP-NORC poll that showed 77 percent of Americans – including 69 percent of Democrats – think Biden is too old to be President.
CNN’s Jake Tapper confronted Jean-Pierre with these results and also about comments from RINO former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley that Kamala Harris will take over for Joe Biden at some point due to his advanced age and obvious physical and cognitive decline.
“What did you make of it the other day when former ambassador and Governor Nikki Haley said that President Biden is – I’m paraphrasing here, but – something along the lines of degrading before our eyes, and that ultimately, Vice President Kamala Harris will be President in a second term?’” Tapper asked.
Jean-Pierre ducked the question and claimed Biden was fit for office because Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer rammed a few bills through Congress during his first two years in office.
But Tapper – a reliable Biden supporter and former Democrat Party campaign operative – would not let Jean-Pierre off the hook so easily.
“But I’m talking about his age and his stamina and his ability to do the job,” Tapper responded. “And you’re talking about the record, and I understand why you’d rather talk about the record. But I’m talking about what Americans see when they turn on the TV and they see, you know, Joe Biden’s been in politics literally since before you were born. And like, he’s aged as we all do.”
Jean-Pierre countered with the fact that Joe Biden was able to walk upright during a trip to Ukraine.
“I’m not saying he’s not able to walk,” Tapper replied.
“No, but you’re talking about his strength, right?” Jean-Pierre continued. “You’re talking about how he’s looking now.”
“He’s 80,” Tapper shot back. “I think the average age of the American male only lives to be 77 or something.”
Critics contend that members of the press like Jake Tapper are not performing acts of journalism in trying to best inform the American people about the challenges facing Joe Biden.
Instead, the sudden media attention on Joe Biden’s age is a sign that the press does not really believe its own narrative that Donald Trump can’t win.
In fact, there is full blown panic in the media that Democrats running a clearly enfeebled and declining Joe Biden makes it easier for Donald Trump to win back the White House.
