McCarthy held out on conservatives’ demands until the bitter end.
And Kevin McCarthy folded after Tucker Carlson hit him with one huge ultimatum.
Kevin McCarthy failed on ballot after ballot to win enough votes to become Speaker of the House.
As the week wore on and conservatives negotiated with McCarthy, Tucker Carlson issued his own proposal as to how McCarthy could finally secure the gavel.
Carlson explained that McCarthy could secure the gavel if he agreed to form a committee based on the 1970s Church Committee – which uncovered all sorts of sleaze and scandal at the FBI, CIA, IRS, and NSA – and have Kentucky Congressman Thomas Massie chair the panel.
“Kevin McCarthy could put Thomas Massie of Kentucky in charge of a new Frank Church Committee designed to discover what the FBI and the intel agencies have been doing to control domestic politics in this country,” Carlson told viewers.
McCarthy must have been paying attention because in the final rules package that won McCarthy the hold out votes there were provisions to create a committee to investigate how the Biden administration weaponized the federal government against conservatives.
Massie then appeared on Carlson’s show to announce that he would serve on this committee.
“It looks like I will probably be on that committee, but I can’t say that I will run it,” Massie stated. The Congressman added he and others had been working to form their own “Church Committee.”
“Thank you for suggesting I should be on it,” Massie continued. “I don’t know if you are clairvoyant or just made the future happen, but it’s happening. We were making sure this committee wasn’t going to be fenced in and it wasn’t going to be a show committee. We wanted to make sure we have full jurisdiction.”
Massie told Carlson the committee had a wide berth to investigate any “three-letter agency.”
