Florida Governor Ron DeSantis trails Donald Trump in the polls and is on the third version of his campaign reboot.
Now DeSantis got some more bad news.
And that’s because Ron DeSantis heard three words that made his heart sink.
Trump leads DeSantis by 39 points in the national GOP Primary polls.
DeSantis’ outlook is slightly less bleak in the critical state of Iowa, which holds the caucuses that will kick off the GOP nomination contest.
Trump holds a slightly narrower 27-point advantage over DeSantis in Iowa.
After his fundraising imploded and destroyed the notion of a national campaign, DeSantis retrenched and centered his whole campaign on winning Iowa.
He traveled to more than one-third of Iowa’s 99 counties and the pro-DeSantis Super PAC Never Back Down poured millions of dollars into TV ads in Iowa.
DeSantis hoped to make a big splash and generate massive headlines with his appearance at the Iowa State Fair.
However, it was Donald Trump who stole the show.
While DeSantis was staging an event to attract a crowd and meet voters, fair attendees turned away and ignored him when Donald Trump’s “Trump Force One” flew overhead.

DeSantis then walked through the fairgrounds hoping to shake hands, mingle with voters, and leave a good personal impression.
This was critical since DeSantis often struggles to connect with voters due to his awkward persona.
As DeSantis moved through the crowd, reporters noted that Iowans shouted “we love Trump” and “we want Trump” at the Florida Governor.

The headlines coming out of the event were exactly what the Trump campaign wanted.

If DeSantis hoped the Iowa State Fair would be the launching pad for his campaign kickoff, it appears to be another one of the faulty assumptions that led him into the position where he is now, closer to third place than first place in national and early state polling.
