The Justice Department is feeling the heat after the sweetheart plea agreement it gave Hunter Biden collapsed.
Whistleblowers revealed that the Justice Department and IRS meddled in the probe every step of the way to protect the President’s son.
Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss, who led the federal investigation into Hunter Biden and signed off on the plea deal, as Special Counsel for the probe.
Weiss has thus far mishandled the probe and lied about the Justice Department’s interference in the investigation.
Ted Cruz slams Merrick Garland for appointing a Hunter Biden Special Counsel
During an interview on Fox News Channel’s Sunday Morning Futures, Ted Cruz (R-TX) said the appointment of David Weiss as Special Counsel was a “disgrace” and a “cover-up.”
“I think it’s disgraceful,” Cruz told host Maria Bartiromo. “David Weiss was the U.S. attorney handpicked to lead this investigation who spent the last five years covering it up. David Weiss, who was personally selected by the two Democrat Senators from Delaware, Tom Carper and Chris Coons. For five years, the investigation has gone nowhere other than to protect Hunter Biden and Joe Biden.”
Federal investigators in the probe told the Washington Post last year that they had more than enough evidence to move forward with criminal charges against Hunter Biden.
Instead, Weiss dragged his feet before giving the President’s son a sweetheart deal to make the charges disappear.
“The result of all of that is that David Weiss either was an active participant in covering up this criminality and protecting Joe Biden in engaging in obstruction of justice. That is option one,” Cruz said. “Or option two – he wasn’t the driver, he was just complicit. He was so weak that he could not stop the partisans and main justice from turning it into a political effort to protect Joe Biden.”
IRS whistleblowers revealed that Weiss admitted behind closed doors that he didn’t have full control over the case even though he said the opposite in public.
“Either case, he is a wildly inappropriate person to be a Special Counsel,” Cruz added. “We should have a Special Counsel. We should have a Special Counsel to investigate Merrick Garland for whether he lied under oath to Congress in the questioning from me and whether he committed obstruction of justice.”
Garland’s selection of Weiss appears to violate the government’s rules about the appointment of a Special Counsel.
The Attorney General is required to appoint “an outside Special Counsel,” which would be someone with no connection to the current Hunter Biden investigation.
But Merrick Garland is making sure that the investigation into Hunter Biden is going nowhere by promoting David Weiss to Special Counsel.
