Woke virtue signalers have taken over college campuses.
But now some students are fighting back.
And this soccer star’s victory proved that it pays to stand on principle.
Radial leftists, socialists, and virtue-signaling “wokesters” have been taking over college campuses around the nation.
And education, truth, and science has taken a massive hit.
That’s because it has become more important to be woke than it is to be awakened by the truth.
Even history-laden Virginia has been hit hard
And for most Virginians, the left-wing assaults on college campuses have been particularly troubling.
Virginia, of course, is home to many of the nation’s Founding Fathers and patriotic revolutionary leaders.
Thomas Jefferson, Patrick Henry, George Washington, James Madison, James Monroe, and dozens and dozens more were Virginians.
The Declaration of Independence was written by Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison is known as the father of the Constitution.
Freedom of speech was a cornerstone the Founders fought and died for.
But today, in Virginia, these names are being stricken from college campuses.
John Tyler Community College was renamed, as was Thomas Nelson Community College, and others.
Even the University of Virginia, founded by Thomas Jefferson, is considering removing mention of him!
Kneel to the Left or else
And at UVA’s in-state rival school Virginia Tech, the political correctness and woke efforts got absolutely outrageous.
A former Virginia Tech women’s soccer team star alleged that her coach benched her simply because she would not bow down to the woke mob and kneel in support of Black Lives Matter.
But in this case the student had had enough and decided to fight back.
Kiersten Hening sued her coach, Charles “Chugger” Adair, and the university on First Amendment grounds.
In early December, U.S. District Judge Thomas T. Cullen ruled the former Hokies midfielder could go ahead with her suit.
Standing on principle pays off
Hening pointed out in her suit she was no bench-sitter, having played the third-most minutes of anyone on the team in 2019 and the most minutes in 2020 during her junior year.
Also, she was a starter for 18 of the school’s 19 games in 2019.
Not only that, Hening had been chosen by the coaching staff to serve as the team’s media spokesman.
But all of that changed when Hening refused to kneel to BLM.
Hening says the coaches turned on her in September of last year when the team met to discuss, not soccer, but social justice virtue signaling.
They promoted the idea of players wearing BLM medical masks, wristbands, armbands, and shirts during warmups as well as put the names of victims of police violence on jerseys instead of player names.
Hening remained quiet through all of that.
But then coach Adair told players he supports taking a knee during the national anthem, and Hening “quietly dissented.”
She does not support kneeling during the national anthem even though she supports some of the goals of BLM.
Hening said coach Adair made her the topic of a rant during a September 12 game because she would not kneel during the anthem.
She also alleged that Adair launched a “campaign of abuse” against her and that the harassment got so bad that she was forced to quit the team.
The three-day trial was set to begin this month but was canceled when Virginia Tech and Coach Adair decided to settle out of court to avoid any more embarrassment.
Hening reportedly received $100,000 in the settlement.
But Hening’s fight has given others hope that standing on principles and fighting back against the woke Left can be successful.
