Democrats are still holding the line when it comes to making Joe Biden their choice as the 2024 Presidential nominee.
But that doesn’t mean that every Democrat thinks Biden is the best person from the Party to lead the nation this election cycle.
And now this well-known political advisor just made a stunning recommendation to Joe Biden.
David Axelrod suggests Biden should drop out
Former Obama advisor David Axelrod was just rattled by a recent poll, which caused him to say that it might be “wise” for Joe Biden to drop out of the 2024 race.
The new poll found the President losing to Donald Trump by a whopping 10 points.
Even more jarring was that the numbers reflected the sentiment of voters in five battleground states that Biden previously won in 2020.
This data encouraged Axelrod to ponder whether it was in the “best interest” of the country for Biden to remain the Democrat Party’s nominee.
On the social media platform X, Axelrod wrote that “only @JoeBiden can make this decision. If he continues to run, he will be the nominee of the Democratic Party. What he needs to decide is whether that is wise; whether it’s in HIS best interest or the country’s?”
Axelrod also admitted that it was “very late to change horses” and put another candidate forward.
However, he did note that the poll was a serious sign that things were not heading in the right direction.
He continued by saying that “a lot will happen in the next year that no one can predict & Biden’s team says his resolve to run is firm. He’s defied CW before, but this will send tremors of doubt through the party—not ‘bed-wetting,’ but legitimate concern.”
Axelrod also noted that the “biggest liability” against the President right now is his age but added that he should still be “proud of his accomplishments.”
He said there is too much at stake right now for the country and that the election could be lost to Trump if Biden were to run again.
The former advisor said that “Trump is a dangerous, unhinged demagogue whose brazen disdain for the rules, norms, laws and institutions or democracy should be disqualifying. But the stakes of miscalculation here are too dramatic to ignore.”
The truth is in the data
New data coming from the recent poll Axelrod referenced has shed a bright light on some warning signs that Democrats should heed.
According to the latest Times/Siena poll, support for Donald Trump from black voters has reached unprecedented levels, hitting a record 22% over Biden in six states.
Most voters across every income level also said they were “personally hurt” by Joe Biden’s policies and that they trusted Trump over him by a large margin when it comes to the economy.
The Times report stated that “discontent pulsates throughout the Times/Siena poll, with a majority of voters saying Mr. Biden’s policies have personally hurt them. The survey also reveals the extent to which the multiracial and multigenerational coalition that elected Mr. Biden is fraying.”
It went on to say that groups who backed Biden “by landslide margins” in 2020 are now “far more closely contested, as two-thirds of the electorate see the country moving in the wrong direction.”
