Joe Biden just lost his biggest advantage over Donad Trump.
Democrats were counting on this ace in the hole to secure victory in November.
But Donald Trump just set one record that is bad news for Joe Biden.
Media focuses on Biden fundraising totals
Joe Biden reported raising $90 million in March, leaving his campaign and the Democrat National Committee flush with $192 million cash-on-hand, which is more than double the $93 million reported by the Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee.
Biden’s record-setting $25 million raised in one night at Radio City Music Hall during a fundraiser attended by Bill Clinton and Barack Obama provided the major boost to that total.
Since Biden held the advantage over Trump, the press began intensely focusing on fundraising totals.
Despite swing state and national polls showing Trump leading, journalists centering their coverage of the 2024 race on fundraising allowed them to frame the contest as Biden winning.
Donald Trump sets record for fundraising haul
It didn’t take long for Trump to erase Biden’s fundraising edge.
Once Trump clinched the GOP nomination, he could form a joint fundraising committee with the Republican National Committee.
That opened up new avenues to raise money.
Trump set a new record by doubling Biden’s $25 million one-night take and brought in $50.5 million in a single night at a fundraiser.
The Trump campaign boasted about the new mark.
“It took three Democrat Presidents to raise $25 million and one President to raise over $50 million, Donald J. Trump,” campaign spokesperson Danielle Alvarez said in a statement to the New York Post that noted how Trump set this record all by himself.
“This haul shows the Republican Party is united behind President Trump to defeat Joe Biden and that nobody is staying on the sidelines,” Alvarez continued.
“Tonight will be an incredible night for President Trump and the Republican Party, raising an astounding $50.5 million,” Trump campaign senior advisors Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles wrote.
“Meanwhile, after locking up the nomination in one of the fastest primaries in modern political history, Donald J. Trump is winning poll after poll and proving that enthusiasm is on his side. It’s clearer than ever that we have the message, the operation, and the money to propel President Trump to victory on November 5,” LaCivita and Wiles continued.
This total also validated the new Republican National Committee leadership team of Chairman Michael Whatley and co-chair Lara Trump that Donald Trump endorsed following Ronna McDaniel’s resignation.
“The success of tonight’s event is proving what we already know: Americans are fed up with Biden’s record of failure, from the open southern border and sky-high inflation to the migrant crime crisis that has made everyone less safe,” a joint statement from Whatley and Trump read. “The Republican Party is united behind the effort to elect President Donald J. Trump, and Americans are lining up to join our movement and retire Crooked Joe Biden once and for all.”
For several weeks, the fundraising totals of the Biden and Trump campaigns were the media’s favorite subject.
But that’s all history now.
