Kevin Costner just devastated fans of Yellowstone with this one statement about the show’s future

May 11, 2023

The wildly popular show Yellowstone aired its midseason finale for Season 5 in January.

The show promised to return with new episodes this summer.

But, Kevin Costner just devastated fans of Yellowstone with this one statement about the show’s future.

Rumors have been flying about behind-the-scenes drama on the set of Yellowstone.

First denied, now confirmed

It all started with allegations that lead actor Kevin Costner wanted to limit his time on set.

Then rumors began circulating that Costner and the show’s creator, Taylor Sheridan, were at a standstill on the discussions.

Next were reports that Costner was done after Season 5.

Even though Costner’s attorney called those claims ridiculous, it has now been confirmed that Season 5 will be his last.

In a report published on May 3, ET cited “sources close to production” who allegedly said that “Kevin Costner is not returning to Yellowstone after season 5.”
“Additional sources also tell ET that there is still no update on when the cast and crew are going to return to Montana, where the series is filmed on location, to finish shooting season 5’s remaining episodes,” ET continued. “As a result, there’s been a lot of confusion and frustration.”

Reports also came out that Taylor Sheridan was set to kill off Costner’s character, John Dutton.

From bad to worse

But then it got even worse for loyal fans of Yellowstone.

After months of rumors, unconfirmed reports, and questions of when the show would return, Paramount, the network that airs the show, just announced that Yellowstone is ending.

In an announcement released on May 5, just two days after Costner’s announcement, Paramount confirmed that Season 5 of Yellowstone will be its last.

The network also said Season 5 will return in November.

For rabid followers of the political and modern western thriller, the combination of these announcements were truly devastating.

Not only is the show’s star leaving, but the entire series is ending for good.

And fans will have to wait until November to find out what happens.

Matthew McConaughey says “alright, alright, alright”

Paramount also announced the future release of a new Yellowstone sequel series, which will debut on the network in December.

Yellowstone has been the cornerstone on which we have launched an entire universe of global hits,” CEO of MTV Entertainment Studios Chris McCarthy said. “I am confident our Yellowstone sequel will be another big hit.”

And David Glasser, CEO of 101 Studios, added that “the Dutton story continues, picking up where Yellowstone leaves off in another epic tale.”
The cast for the new series has not yet been announced.

But it was confirmed that Matthew McConaughey is “lined up” to appear in a new Yellowstone series.

Only time will tell if the Yellowstone sequel will fill the void left by the show’s cancellation.
