Republicans finally elected a Speaker of the House.
Kevin McCarthy won on the 15th ballot.
And then Kevin McCarthy said one thing to Donald Trump that will drive Democrats insane.
McCarthy finally secured the votes to become Speaker of the House after six remaining conservative opponents agreed to vote present on the 15th ballot.
That occurred in part due to a lobbying campaign from Donald Trump who previously endorsed McCarthy for Speaker.
Following the victory, McCarthy took time to thank President Trump and reiterate the fact that Trump still retained significant influence in the Republican Party.
McCarthy told reporters:
But I do want to especially thank President Trump. I don’t think you should doubt–anybody should doubt his influence. He was with me from the beginning . . . And he was all in. He would call me and he would call others.
And he really was – I was just talking to him tonight – helping get those final votes. And what he’s really saying really for the party and the country, that we have to come together. We have to focus on the economy. We’ve got to focus, make our border secure. We’ve got to do so much work to do, and he was a great influence to make that all happen. So, thank you, President Trump.
Trump responded by thanking McCarthy for acknowledging the fact that he was still one of the dominant voices in the GOP.
The corporate-controlled media storyline for much of the week promoted the idea that Donald Trump was a waning force in the Republican Party.
During the previous 14 ballots, conservatives – who all identified as Trump supporters – refused to vote for McCarthy even after Trump told all Republicans to unite around McCarthy’s candidacy.
That’s because these conservatives were holding out for concessions from McCarthy on rule changes that would blow up the Swamp’s ability to conduct business as usual in Congress.
McCarthy’s opponents eventually won out, securing massive victories on a package of rules that will empower conservatives to investigate the Biden administration and stop trillion-dollar spending bills.
These are the concessions Kevin McCarthy made to get the votes. Do keep in mind that 90% of the GOP pundit-class fought against these things for the last few days. You would have had none of this if they got their way.

But when the final vote came down to it, Donald Trump implored conservatives to take the victory and support McCarthy.
And contrary to the media narrative, that is exactly what happened.
