The establishment picks their horse to oppose Donald Trump in 2024 GOP primary

Dec 15, 2022

The last thing the Mitch McConnell’s of the world wanted to see following the 2022 Midterm disappointment was a Donald Trump Presidential candidacy.

But much to the dismay of RINOs across the country, former President Trump has announced his intentions to make a third bid at the White House.

And now the GOP establishment appears to have picked this Senator to run against Trump in the party primary in 2024.

Et tu Brute?

Very early in the Midterm election cycle – March 2, 2021 – former President Donald Trump through his support behind South Carolina Republican Sen. Tim Scott’s re-election campaign.

The 45th President of the United States gave Sen. Scott his “complete and total endorsement.”

At the time, the Scott campaign was incredibly grateful to have Trump’s support.

“Thank you, President Trump!” Scott spokesman Bradford Traywick tweeted at the time. “Tim Scott is honored to have President Trump’s endorsement. In just four years they were able to pass historic tax reform, achieve record unemployment, seat 220+ conservative judges, begin Operation Warp speed, and enact vital criminal justice reform.”

Since then, Scott has had a very funny way of showing his appreciation.

He even endorsed Never-Trump GOP Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska in her 2022 re-election bid.

“The road to socialism runs right through a divided Republican Party,” Sen. Scott said. “I like winning and frankly the best shot at us keeping that seat is without doubt Lisa Murkowski.”

In reality, the Democrat running in the Alaska Senate race had no chance at winning – it was a two-person race between Sen. Murkowski and the Trump-endorsed Kelly Tshibaka.

Murkowski won in the second round of a very tight Ranked Choice Voting contest.

Run Scott, Run?

And now Scott appears to be the Republican establishment’s pick to once again stab Trump in the back and challenge him in a 2024 Presidential primary.

Sen. John Cornyn of Texas went as far as saying he would “advise [Scott] to go for it.”

Cornyn was the chief negotiator with Democrats in the 2022 gun rights sellout bill.

Sen. Joni Ernst of Iowa said she is “very excited” about a potential Tim Scott Presidential run.

Ernst was one of the 15 RINO Senators who voted along with every Democrat on the Cornyn gun rights sellout.

And Sen. John Barrasso of Wyoming said it “doesn’t get any better than Tim Scott.”

While Ernst is tied to the hip of Cornyn, Barrasso is one of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s favorites.

Back in mid-November, Barrasso refused to delay a Republican leadership vote in the Senate until after the Georgia runoff – which would have given time for conservatives to organize an effort to challenge McConnell’s stranglehold over the party.

As for Sen. Scott, so far, he has denied any Oval Office ambition, however, his upcoming book, America: A Redemption Story, has many speculating that he’s got his sights set on it.
