The establishment is hoping to install someone to continue his legacy.
Now Matt Gaetz is going to war to stop this awful RINO from replacing Mitt Romney.
Conservatives were jumping for joy when U.S. Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) announced that he wasn’t running for reelection.
Romney has been a thorn in the side of conservatives by working to hand President Joe Biden major victories on gun control, funding the war in Ukraine, and green energy.
Now Republicans have a chance to put an actual conservative in Utah’s Senate seat, but the establishment isn’t letting it go without a fight.
Matt Gaetz slams RINO running to replace Romney in Utah
Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL) traveled to Utah to endorse the conservative candidate running to replace Romney.
The conservative firebrand announced that he was supporting Riverton Mayor Trent Staggs.
Staggs is running as the pro-Trump candidate to give Utah a conservative Senator.
But early polling of the race shows that RINO Representative John Curtis (R-UT) is the current frontrunner.
“John Curtis is Mitt Romney without good hair,” Gaetz told a crowd of Republican delegates at Riverton High School.
Romney has become incredibly toxic with the conservative base and supporters of former President Donald Trump in Utah.
At the 2021 Utah Republican Convention, the failed 2012 Republican Presidential nominee was met with a chorus of loud boos when he came on stage.
Staggs needs the support of 40% of the Republican delegates at the Utah GOP Convention in late April to be able to advance to the June Primary.
Gaetz says he needs another conservative fighter in Congress
Gaetz told the Salt Lake City Tribune why he’s backing Staggs to become the next Senator from Utah.
“I need Republicans who will actually fight. And what I’ve seen in John Curtis for the last several years in the House has been weakness — or a willingness to prioritize foreign interests abroad, special interests in the halls of Washington,” Gaetz said. “I think Trent Staggs will be a conservative fighter who will stand with the America First agenda.”
Staggs said he was working to get the endorsements of people who could show delegates that he’s willing to fight against the establishment.
“I’m not just somebody going out there trying to pick up any old endorsement,” Staggs said. “These are intentional. These are folks that I want to be able to say I’m going to emulate their type of fire and energy and ability to push back against the establishment.”
Staggs has picked up the endorsement of likely Arizona Republican Senate nominee Kari Lake, Turning Point USA’s Charlie Kirk, and U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL).
Curtis is an awful RINO
Curtis is running to keep Romney’s legacy of betraying conservatives going in the Senate.
That’s why he claims that climate change is a serious threat and bashed Republicans who refuse to believe it.
He was also a Democrat until 2006 when he switched parties before running for Mayor of Provo.
Voters in Utah will have a choice between an American First fighter and a former Democrat backed by the establishment.
