Donald Trump and Fox News Channel are in open warfare.
Fox News is looking to ditch Trump in 2024.
But Donald Trump warned Fox News that the network will be destroyed if this one thing happens.
Semafor recently reported that Fox News has a soft ban in place to keep Donald Trump off the airwaves and to cover his 2024 Presidential campaign as little as possible.
Trump has not appeared on the network since last September.
Of course, the ban has not escaped the notice of Trump or his supporters.
After the Midterm elections – where several Trump-backed candidates lost winnable races – Fox News founder Rupert Murdoch reportedly informed Trump that his media empire, which also includes the New York Post and the Wall Street Journal – would not support his 2024 campaign.
Donald Trump used his feud with Fox News to offer advice to an unlikely source – fake news CNN.
Trump posted an article on Truth Social about CNN’s plummeting ratings and suggested that it could overtake Fox News as the number-one rated cable news channel if it ever stopped acting like an anti-Trump propaganda network.
“If they ever went for ‘Trump,’ they would take over from Fox News. Otherwise, they will NEVER make it!” Trump posted.
After the 2020 election, interest in a Trump alternative surged when Newsmax drew higher ratings than Fox News in the 7PM primetime hour one night.
CNN needs all the help it can get since the network’s ratings are barely above a flatline.
For the week of February 27, CNN drew an average of just 530,000 viewers in primetime.
Adweek reported:
CNN finished No. 14 in total primetime viewers for the third consecutive week, drawing a 530,000 total viewer average, and moved one spot up to No. 4 in total day viewing with a 446,000 viewer average. CNN fell to No. 27 from No. 24 in primetime Adults 25-54, posting a 105,000 viewer average in the daypart. The network dropped three spots to No. 16 in the total day demo, averaging 84,000 viewers from the measurement this past week.
The drop was even more startling year over year.
CNN lost 71 percent of its primetime audience and 83 percent of the key 25-54 demographic used to set advertising rates.
Adweek also reports:
CNN traditionally sees the sharpest growth during major news events, and the steepest decline when the news cycle is quieter. Without a major breaking news event to cover this past week (ie. the early days of the Russia-Ukraine war/Biden’s SOTU), CNN saw steeper year-over-year losses than its competition. The network dropped -71% in total primetime viewers, -83% among A25-54 in primetime, -62% in total day total viewers and -75% among A25-54 watching across total day vs. the year-ago week.
If Fox News bans Donald Trump from its airwaves during the 2024 Presidential campaign, some other channel will certainly cover him.
And that channel could draw in Trump’s supporters and receive a massive ratings boost.
